Roses

"Oi, Takeshi!" he yelled, pounding on the bathroom door. "I'm trying to take a shower! Do you mind?!" Takeshi yelled back. Keisuke raised his hands in a gesture of exasperation and growled, "Fine!" He then stormed off back to the living room, where he plopped himself on the couch and sighed. "Some Valentine's Day," he grumbled. He had shown up at Takeshi's apartment about an hour earlier, timing his visit so that Takeshi would be back from work when he came. Takeshi was pleased to see him and greeted him with a kiss, but later... He sighed again. Somehow he must have made Takeshi angry, for the GT-R driver scowled and grumbled as he cooked something for dinner, since both of them had not eaten a thing since lunch. And as for dinner... Keisuke shuddered as he recalled the way Takeshi carelessly, and rather violently slapped food onto his plate, causing some bits of mashed potato to fly all over the place. "Takeshi..." he had began to whine, but immediately swallowed whatever he had to say when Takeshi stabbed a glare at him. He didn't even dare laugh at the fact that Takeshi had a bit of mashed potato on his nose. "Takeshi?" he called out when he heard the water stop running. "Whatever it is I did, I'm sorry!" he said as he got up and headed for the bathroom. "Yeah right," Takeshi snorted as he stomped to the bedroom. Keisuke followed close behind, only to have the door slammed in his face. Again. "Hey!" Keisuke yelled, starting to lose his temper. "Open this door!" he demanded. "Takahashi, shut up!" Keisuke blinked. 'Takahashi'? Not 'Keisuke'? "Oh man, he's really pissed with me." He sighed and went back to the living room, where he sank down to the floor, scratching his head. "Now what am I gonna do?" His eyes brightened after a moment. "I know! I'll ask aniki!" He reached into his pocket for his cellphone. "Come on, pick it up..." he muttered impatiently. "Hello?" "Aniki!" Keisuke whined, "I need your help!" "Why? What happened?" Ryousuke asked, obviously concerned. Keisuke sniffed. "Takeshi's angry with me and I don't know why!" A sigh. "What did you do this time?" "Nothing! I swear!" "You sure?" "Of course I'm sure! I didn't do anything! I said that I was sorry for whatever it is that I did to make him mad, and that made him even more pissed!" Another sigh. "Did you mess up his apartment? Tried cooking? Killed his houseplants-" "No," Keisuke growled, interrupting Ryousuke from listing down all his previous sins, "I didn't touch anything!" "Okay... hey, when those girls gave all those gifts to you, did any of them kiss you or anything? 'Cause you might have lipstick on your collar, maybe?" Keisuke gasped. "Oh shit!" he swore as he ran to the bathroom, where he checked himself in the mirror. "No... no, definitely no lipstick marks anywhere." He wailed, "Aniki! That's not it either!" "Did you get him anything for Valentine's Day?" "Of course I did. And I doubt that he's annoyed with what I got him, since I know he actually wears that shirt with a bunny on the pocket I gave him once!" "Okay, tell me everything you did the moment you stepped inside his apartment." "Oh, all right. I stepped inside and took off my shoes. I had my hands behind my back - didn't want to show him what I got for him, ya know? He went to the living room and switched the TV on, and when he turned around, I - uh, I kissed him." Keisuke blushed, and only continued when Ryousuke gave a meaningful cough. "Then I said 'Happy Valentine's Day, Takeshi' and showed him the roses I had behind my back. He was really surprised. Then I had to go use the bathroom, and when I came back he was pissed with me." There was a long pause before Ryousuke spoke. "Well... I can't think why he should be mad at you." "Well, you gotta help me think of something! I honestly don't know why he's pissed - heck, anyone else would be happy to have some cute guy knocking on their door to present them with a dozen yellow roses-" "Wait," Ryousuke interrupted him, "yellow roses?" "Yeah. I thought it was a neat idea, since my car's yellow... it'd match, see?" There was an odd noise that sounded suspiciously like muffled laughter before Ryousuke cleared his throat and replied, "Keisuke... I can't believe you gave him yellow roses." "Why? What's wrong with yellow roses? I mean, I gave them to him before at the hospital, remember?" "Yeah, and didn't he tell you something about them?" Keisuke blinked. "He did?" Ryousuke chuckled. "He did, and you obviously forgot." "So sue me! What's the big fuss over yellow roses anyway?" Keisuke snapped. "Keisuke... yellow roses signify friendship." It took a moment for that to register in Keisuke's head, and when it did, he gasped aloud in horror. "Oh shit! No wonder he's royally ticked off! He thinks that I - I just think of him as a friend!?" "Okay, now that the problem has been identified, you come up with a solution." Ryousuke chuckled, then hung up. Keisuke immediately felt like bashing his head on the wall. Now that Ryousuke mentioned it, he recalled that Takeshi had mentioned something about yellow roses quite some time ago, specifically after he had taken his lover home from the hospital. "Oh yeah," he muttered, "Takeshi asked me if I knew what yellow roses meant, and I said 'no'. Then he just laughed and told me, and I forgot!" He smacked his forehead. "Shit! Now I remember - I told aniki about it and asked if it were true, and he said yes..." He heard the door to the bedroom open, and he turned around and saw Takeshi stomping off to the kitchen. He immediately followed his lover and stood quietly some distance away, watching Takeshi washing the pile of dishes in the sink. I don't deserve you. I make all sorts of silly demands on you, I mess up your apartment whenever I come over, I sure as hell make you spend what little free time you have with me, I know that I annoy you almost half the time but you just keep your mouth shut or laugh it off... and I can't even remember just one stupid thing about yellow roses. I'm such an idiot. Keisuke sighed and walked over to where his lover stood. "I'm sorry," he said softly as he wrapped his arms around Takeshi from behind. "I'm sorry, Takeshi," he repeated, "I forgot that thing about yellow roses." Takeshi merely grunted and continued washing dishes. Keisuke tightened his hold and kissed the back of Takeshi's neck. "Honest," he continued, "I really forgot." Takeshi grunted again, but this time Keisuke felt his lover's shoulders relaxing slightly in his arms. Pressing on, he whispered into Takeshi's ear, "I'm not really a bright boy, remember? I didn't mean to make you mad." He kissed Takeshi again, but on the cheek this time. "You're so much more than just a friend." "Hmm." Keisuke kissed Takeshi on his other cheek, and cupped his chin and gently turned his face so that they would look at each other eye to eye. "Does that mean you believe me?" Takeshi snorted, but the corners of his mouth slowly upturned and he smiled, just a little. The look in his eyes softened, and Keisuke knew he was forgiven. Vowing not to ever, ever forget anything Takeshi told him, he leaned down to give his lover a tender kiss. "Anything I can do to make it up to you?" he asked. Takeshi indicated the pile of dishes in the sink with a nod. "I'll wash, and you dry." Keisuke chuckled and grabbed a dry kitchen towel. "Keisuke?" "What?" He felt Takeshi's lips brushing him lightly on one cheek . "Happy Valentine's Day," Takeshi whispered. :: back :: |
